Shepherd´s Tour

Shepherd´s Tour

The Shepherd´s Tour starts in the majestic village of Saksun with the local farmers of Dúvugarðar, Jóhan or Sonja. When seated safely in the feeding truck, they´ll give you a guided tour while leading you through the longest valley in the Faroe Islands, Saksunardalur. You will experience the daily feeding routine on the largest sheep farm in the Faroe Islands.
The tour offers spectacular views all through the valley, close contact with the sheep and sheepdog and the opportunity to participate in the feeding of the sheep.
During lambing season (starting end of April) there will be a good chance to get up close to the lambs. Getting to the 11 various flocks involves several river crossings with the 4×4 truck, as well as the opportunity to talk to the farmer during the tour.

Get Up Close

The Shepherd´s Tour provides a rare opportunity to get up close to the Faroese sheep and sheepdog. While most sheep keep their distance when encountered, some of these sheep have been home fed and like to get fed from the palm of your hand.

Family Friendly

The Shepherd´s Tour welcomes explorers of all ages! And when the lambing season begins by the end of April you can even get up close to these curly bundles of joy playfully running around while their mothers get a much appreciated break while being fed.

Exclusive Guide

Being Shepherds Sonja and Jóhan provide a special experience taking you on their daily route through the valley and sharing unique knowledge of life as a farmer in Saksun, Faroe Islands – all while feeding their sheep.

Dress Code

We have a saying in the Faroe Islands – there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing. So make sure to bring your boots and warm waterproof clothing because we can get all four seasons in one day!
